Climate Action for Peace

2019 International Day of Peace: Climate Action for Peace

The International Day of Peace is observed each year on 21 September, and was devised as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples.

In 2015, 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the United Nations Member States because they understood that building a peaceful world would not be possible unless steps were taken to achieve economic and social development for all people and protection of their rights. Some of the issues covered by the Sustainable Goals include hunger, poverty, health, education, climate change, gender equality and social justice.

In particular, Sustainable Development Goal 13 “Climate Action” is a call for immediate action to lower greenhouse emissions, build resilience and improve education on climate change. This will constitute the theme of this year’s International Day of Peace: “Climate Action for Peace”. This theme addresses the importance of combatting climate change as a way to promote and protect peace around the world.

Climate change poses many threats to international peace and security. Natural disasters force millions to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. Food security is endangered by the salinization of water and crops, and this impacts on public health. The growing tension over resources and mass movements of people affect every country in the world. This is why peace can only be achieved if concrete action is taken to combat climate change.

For the past 16 years, Prime Production is proud to have supported many international agencies and organisations in combating climate change all over the world and encouraging and working towards world peace.
