5 Top Tips for working from home.

Prime Production - 5 Tips For Working From Home

It’s fair to say Coronavirus (COVID-19) has changed many things, one of the largest being how people work, and we have all had to adjust to new ways of living and working. These simple tips can help you while working at home, to feel more productive and take care of your mental health in these difficult times

1.Stick to a routine
Sticking to a routine can help your days feel more normal and help beat the anxiety and uncertainty of the current day to day life. Try to keep to normal sleep and work patterns if you can, and stay consistent. Get up at the same time, eat some breakfast and scheduling in your “commute time” and spend it exercising, reading or listening to music before logging in.

2.Create a dedicated workspace
Having a dedicated work space can help in keeping the work and home divide which is a key element to working from home. Get everything you need in one place, before you start work – chargers, pens, paper and anything else – and shut the door if you can. Even in a small or shared space, try to designate an area for work. Lastly, make sure you are comfortable and sat correctly. While it might be tempting to sit on the sofa, it’s much better to sit at a desk or table. There are helpful NHS guidelines to set up your workspace correctly, as much as you possibly can.

3.Take a break
Breaks are important to help manage feelings of stress – try to take lunch somewhere different to where you are working and ensure to take regular screen breaks, even if it’s just to make another cup of tea. Removing yourself from your work space can give yourself time to concentrate on something else so you feel more focused when you return. If possible, use your lunch break to go for a walk, run or bike ride for some fresh air, or a coffee – just make sure you follow social distancing guidance when outside your home.

4.Stay connected
Working from home can have many benefits, however it can also be very isolating for people who live alone. However keeping in contact with your colleagues can boost not your own mental wellbeing but theirs as well! And remember, your colleagues probably feel the same as you. Ask how they’re doing and whether there are ways you can support each other.

5.Take care of you
The most important tip during these uncertain times is to make sure you take time to look after yourself. Remember, this is an unusual situation and things will not feel normal. Be kind to yourself and keep realistic expectations about what you can achieve given the circumstances. Finally make sure you take the time relax and reward yourself when your work is done, whether it be with your favourite movie, a good book or lovely dinner. More now than ever it is important to look after ourselves.
