Commission on the status of Women, 2019
63rd Commission on the Status of Women, New York, 2019
First established in 1946, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is the single largest forum for UN Member States, civil society organizations, and other international actors to build consensus and commitment on policy actions on this issue.
The Commission adopts multi-year work programmes to appraise progress and make further recommendations to accelerate the implementation of the Platform for Action. These recommendations take the form of negotiated agreed conclusions on a priority theme. The priority theme this year is social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Over the next two weeks, in addition to the general discussions and panels, there will be numerous side events to further discuss the themes, such as ‘ Making gender parity a reality’ and ‘Leaving no one behind through social protection in Central Asia’.
