Have you ever volunteered?
Wherever we are in the world, volunteerism exists. From local community initiatives to large scale teams helping with the after-effects of natural disasters, there are always individuals committed to making the world a better place.
In recognition, International Volunteer Day celebrates the efforts of volunteers and organisations, and also serves as an opportunity to promote their contribution to development at a local, national and international level. This year, #IVD2018will focus on the impact on building #ResilientCommunities. It will recognise those who have generated well-being and strengthened the resilience of communities in the face of natural disasters, economic pressures and political uproar.
Every year, over 6,500 UN Volunteers serve in some of the most challenging environments across the world. Under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Volunteers programme works towards global peace and development through volunteerism. It has evolved in terms of size, results and activities. As part of its mission, it will continue to champion volunteerism and mobilise volunteers to allow individuals to be directly involved in humanitarianism, peacebuilding, sustainable development and post-conflict recovery.
Have you ever volunteered? Or is there someone that you know who is a volunteer? Share your story and celebrate the efforts of a friend or a relative on International Volunteers Day using the hashtag #IVD2018 .
