Prime Production - 72nd Session of the World Health Assembly

Monday 20th May sees the first day of the 72nd session of the World Health Assembly which takes place in Geneva, Switzerland. This Assembly is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO), attended by delegations from all WHO Member States, and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board.

WHO was established to promote health and ease the burden of disease worldwide, with the organization taking direction for its goals and priorities from the 194 Member States it is designed to serve. Each year, senior health officials from Member States come to Geneva to participate in the World Health Assembly, where WHO’s work is reviewed, new goals are set, and new tasks assigned.

Through resolutions, the WHA has endorsed a number of WHO action plans dealing with different areas to improve health around the world, such as the worldwide eradication of smallpox, the worldwide eradication of polio, and the control of harmful use of alcohol.

Discussions at the WHA this year will include topics such as public health emergencies, universal health coverage, access to medicines and vaccines, and patient safety.

Prime Production is proud to be providing interpreting services to UN agencies during the World Health Assembly in Geneva, and other international organizations who endeavor to improve access to healthcare around the world.
